What’s new at EricBrooks.Com plus newz and gossip all over CyberTown
It’s probably too late to mention this, but if you’re planning on coming up for The Pocono 500, don’t bother. It’s raining really bad and everything has been cancelled until probably Monday.
To the NASCAR fans who are already here, I have been asked to kindly remind you to keep your campers, pickup trucks, and motor homes as far off to the side of the road as possible… and please place all of your empty beer cans in the proper receptacles. Don’t think of the rain as an obstacle… but rather as an unexpected opportunity to bathe this week.
Thank you.
A happy anniversary today to Rha and Solonor. (no. they are married to different people. Don’t be silly.) Rha has made a fun game at Quizilla for you to play also.
Hunting Season: Day Two - *cough*look at the forum*cough*
You see, when you are up against an opponent who dismisses you rather than addresses the issues, reasoning with them is rather pointless. The winner in this game will not be determined by who’s right, but rather by who gets in the last word, and which one runs away crying like a little bitch. Oh no. This requires a special blend of guerilla warfare not seen since the bloody days of UseNet.
So please take the following tips FROM your Friendly Neighborhood WarMeister™:
- Be anonymous
- Get down & dirty (10 extra bonus points for any personal references)
- Drown the ignorant prick with noise
- Chaos and confusion reign supreme
- Tell all your friends
Kindly read the previous post before giving me your “bad karma” bullshit. The high holy Imam Eric® has declared a Fatwa (holy war), and bad karma will come to those who sit idly by as good people in our community are abused by cruel outsiders.
Thank you. Remember to tip your waitress on the way out.

Redesign Update - Today Wendy, Creative Director of the Pocono Record, threw in her much-valued input… personally I think it’s coming along nicely.
This week has been cancelled by Skarlet. Personally, I’m all for it.
Input anyone? Tammie would love to hear from you guys on how she’s doing with her blog… she’s already got a tagboard and a counter, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Get your stories straight, ERIC!!!! Well, now is as good a time as any to print a retraction. Let me set the record straight by clarifying: Linkmeister paid for his own domain name, okay? Not Lee, as previously reported. Yes the wonderfully benevolent Lee is footing the bills for his and Kare’s hosting… but Linkmeister paid for his own domain name. By himself. With his own money. Not by some giiiiiirrrrrrrl….
It’s a “guy” thang. Don’t try and understand it.
My apologies, Mr. Timberlake. :0)
You’re married… stop that! Yes I’m married. But I’m not dead (I think.). It’s come to my attention that my flirtacious nature with female *FRIENDS* has become a bit of a problem with certain people. Making someone feel good about themselves seems to be a crime with the “morality police”, these days.
Well, please allow me to apologize…
I’m sorry for not telling you to “Fuck Off” sooner.
You don’t know me…. I’m *above* your petty judgments, asshole.

The end of the Z-List? - Mike “cooties” Brown posted his final post on the Z-List blog today. (More on that later… my thoughts on the Z-List ::A lot more positive than you may think:: deserves a separate post.)
PoodleCircus is lonely… go send your love.
Metafocker redesigns - Check our Mr. Larry’s new look. Navy blue and gold, very cool, and very manly. Why don’t *I* think of color combos like that… oh and the arrow buttons sinking when you press them? Tres kewl… I *will* be studying your CSS and sourcecodes for that little secret. :0)
Mozilla 1.0 is out the door! (via Pete) - Don’t want to use Internet Explorer? Well, I’m tired of tweaking sites for flawed browsers like Netscape and Opera…. Download Mozilla 1.0 here. Read the review at CNet. I’ll be taking this baby for a spin later this week.
WASPII: A New Stinger (via Zeldman) - The WebStandards Project has fought valiantly since 1998 to force browsers to comply with the W3C’s Standards in HTML, ECMAscript, XML, RSS, etc. Phase II will focus on education. If you’re serious about web design, and what it takes to produce clean code, that can be enjoyed by all… you really need to be there.
Pirated Sites.Com - Dammit to hell, people! Ripping off a site is *not* cool!!!!
“Originality is the art of hiding your sources.” Yes we all borrow from here and there (that’s how a lot of us *learned* HTML, or at least I did…). I have folders of JavaScript, CSS, DHTML, and SMIL samples from other sites that I save on my hard drive for later dissection…
But SIF Technologies? You are SO BUSTED!!!!
Though you may have hastily redesigned to spare yourself any further embarrassment, hate mail, or any resemblance to EVOLT… however, your stupidity and lack of originality has been immortalized in a screenshot for ALL (your clients?) to see you are a THIEF (and needless to say… finished?).
The Council of WebGods have spoken. May WE have mercy on your soul…
Please leave your hubris by the door. Thank you, and drive carefully.

South Park Bloggers - Well, you got the CyberPal, you got Faith, you got Batgrl, you used to have Aaron (but he “accidentally” deleted most of his entries. Uh huh.) and now you got Jon Sullivan.
Someone needs to assemble these together and make a gallery, so we can make parody flash movies. (hint. hint.)
Top secret project - Kare’s got something coming down the pike… so secret she wont even share with me. But what little I heard, it sounds like a great idea…
Nico learns you “can’t please everybody”. Shit. I gave up on that a long time ago.
Tammie misses Phil. Everyone goes “Awwwww….”. :0)
Tracy - DykeWrite - You have officially been plugged. That will be $50.00 please.
Intimate details - BobtheCorgi tells all about Mr. Sami. Film at 11.

According to my referrer logs…
A woman from my past has reincarnated herself as Red Eagle Spirit - She has asked, due to very important personal reasons, that you not mention who she was and who she is in the same post… for fear of it turning up in a Google Search. Trust me. She has very good reasons.
A ton of referrals from NegativeSubspace.Net… well gee, who could that possibly be? Hmmmm?. I keep getting a “server not found”, while trying to find our favourite whacky Norwegian person (he’s had it pretty rough lately… so I worry. Sue me.) It’s possible since he bought the domain name on Friday, it hasn’t fully propagated to our DNS servers in the U.S.
Some goodGREAT news over at Toxiclabrat’s site.
Moved…
Lee’s army of bloggers has grown even stronger: Fans of Thoughts Interrupted can now point their browsers here.
The artist formerly known as “AWoman” is now “A Broad” and over at her new home at Trash Talk. Go say hi….

Reports are in that BOBTHECORGI’s mom and her open-heart surgery went well, and she’s doing fine
The Other Cheek - Here is another gem via BOBTHECORGI.
Fellow Pennsylvanian Tina is hilarious! She offers guidelines for those visiting an Intensive Care Unit that I’m sure several medical professionals would wholeheartedly agree with.
I was just informed, in my absence, that a dear friend lost her son in a motorcycle accident. Madeline Jacobs offers a thank you and a tribute to her 21 year old son, Jason, cut down in the prime of his life….
This is the second time tragedy has struck, as she lost another son, Jordan, in an accident on her ranch recently. My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her and her family right now. I can’t even imagine that type of pain.
BrooksKidz Update: - Yeah, things are slowly coming back to normal. (I posted a “readers digest version” of the whole thing on Kare’s Discussion Board, as so many people felt there was more to the story.)
On Wednesday, the house got a last-minute inspection by a very attractive, very shapely, social worker named Stacy. Of course, I kept forgetting her name (I kept calling her “the one with the body”)….
So all night, when her name eluded me, the girls would remind me by going “Staaaaaaaaacyyyyyy” (doing the “girl shape” thing with their hands). I come up here to check my mail to find a few love notes (in kids handwriting) that Staaaaaacyyyy left behind for me on my desk.
Yeah… we’re gonna be back to normal in no time. :0)

- A big congratz is in order to BOBTHECORGI for hitting the 1,000 visitor mark… in what, a matter of weeks? Holy cow… it took me eight months to do that with my very first site… and that was with me checking on it 20 times a day! (Of course it’s one of those boring stodgy “Let US design your website with our crack
smoking staff”, a la my Schizophenic Website stage… )unlike BOBTHECORGI, which happens to be one of the most entertaining and well-written blogs/journals out there…CONGRATZ BABE!
- In case you missed it last year: Kare has reprinted her now-classic “Mr. Wonderful” rant… (I’m sure you have an ex or two that this post will strike home with…)
- Friendly sex advice from Uncle Bob… Green M&M’s don’t work on virgins. Scientists offer no explanations on this as of yet.
- I’m taking the rest of the summer off… The Tribe called Brooks has a lot of restructuring to do in our lives. Writing to moi@ericbrooks.com is probably a guarantee that you won’t get a response for a couple of months… you can write me at my top-secret work email (if you know it) for a better shot. I’ll probably post sporadically here, but no promises.

- Trivial Pursuit 1.0 - Weblog Edition - From the brilliant minds of Erratic and Diz comes this contest… 22 of the cool kids on the web contributed a little known fact about them. You match the name with the quote.
The winner with the closest answer gets a $22 gift certificate for Amazon.Com.

- Alan “The Head Lemur” Herrell Reviews Zeldman’s "Taking Your Talent To The Web"

My Inner Rock Star is…. ERIC BROOKS Aaaaallllright!!!!
Alright…. I confess:
I DIDN’T TAKE THE TEST!!!!
It wasn’t going to tell me that it’s my life-long idol Barry Gibb …so what the hell was the Point???
- Programmer for Hire MetaFilter Guru, Matt Haughey is looking for work in the Bay Area. Man, if he can design a universal program for the Ottaway Paper sites, I’d recommend him in a heartbeat! We’re all currently looking at a new program that will convert Quark documents into XML… the possibilies would be endless.
- Kare is coming back with a new site… I’ll keep you posted….
- I am seriously out of server space! (That’s why the Search Engine is FUBAR) A recent business proposition may lead me to make a serious move… details to follow.

- Happy Birthday Debra Smouse!
- Sweet Sites: I just added NotSweet.Net
and So anyway… to "Related links". Taste the chocolatey goodness as Bonni’s page loads!
- Independent’s Day - The new brainchild of Zeldman & Company launches on the 10th anniversary of the World Wide Web.
- Regarding the latest fracas over “The Ageless Project“… as I suspected, there was a whole other side of the story.
- For personal reasons, I’ve made the decision to “tone it down” here and be more positive on my site. I have a more high-profile image due to my current position in the Poconos.
For that matter, I’ve recently decided that WHUZZUP! is no longer a weblog. It’s back to being an "Update/What’s New" page. No more wars, no more linking to everyone just for mentioning my name. Deal with it.
If that doesn’t work, I can always click on this link to remind me that life’s too short.

- Hope all is well with Amber. I know when I’m on hiatus, hell is breaking loose in my world.
- My heart goes out to Tiffany & Darrell for the horrors they’re going through right now. I found his keeping brave, for the family’s sake, extra heartbreaking.
- You know Faith… I am your friend, believe it or not. I guess I overestimated you, and thought you were tougher than you really are. Hell, I was probably the only one who thought your "trailer park" jokes were funny when we were on the verge of being homeless…. I was all proud of you, came in guns a-blazing, then out at the first flame. Oh well….
- Hey Divas…if you all feel so strongly about these issues, why don’t you knock off your silly, trying-to-be-terroristic, letter-writing campaigns to me and my friends, and express them in The Air Duct. We believe in freedom of speech, and letting everyone have their say,
unlike youokay?.
- The kinder, gentler (and redesigned) EricBrooks.Com is gonna have to wait. I’m on hiatus.

- Poor Faith is working herself to death, lawyering & stuff. She’s out of ammo and "Trailer park jokes". I wonder what she’d think of this….? (why do I do this to myself??!!??)
- Don (Rat Bastard) Bruns has survived another dreaded surgery… let’s hope he remembers me in his will next time.
- Jeffrey Zeldman is away at… oh hell, we all go to Zeldman.com everyday, what’s the point of telling you??!!!?
- Debra Smouse is still a sweetheart, and just got entered in the Guinness Book of Records for having the world’s largest checkbook.

We did some initial tests today on the redesign of the Pocono Record site, and all the data went right where it should, graphics laid out perfectly (well, with the exception of a few glitches with the CSS and the templates.)
See, any moron can do straight HTML, but to slice the design up into several templates, using a proprietary markup language, and make it work within a series of very delicate programs, blending with a dash of CGI and database access with the newsroom and AP servers…. now that’s finesse!
Damn, I’m good! :0)
well, you’ll see soon…….
So you see, my dear, while I’m happy that freelancing works out for you and pays well…. Moi? Working for a company owned by Ottaway Newspapers & Dow Jones pays better.
And you reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally have to know what you’re doing to get a job like that.

-
Aaaaaa… SHADDAP!!!! and don’t encourage her! See, while she was busy elsewhere (for like, 10 hours…), Boris & I were on an IRC channel trading hacker software, and we decided to reciprocate links.
Originally he had written: "Gets Mommy hot & bothered", but she changed it on him.
- Take a Video Tour of Reis Home’s model, "The Katie".
I know, I know… it’s nowhere near impressive as Coldwell Banker’s
"Virtual Open House" (Actually Zeldman & I had a great laugh over that site last year…). I used SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) for the RealVideo Presentation…. I need some input here.
- Congratz to rock band THEOADORE MUDDFOOT, for making Church Uv Manson’s Band Of The Month… they also have an interview with my CyberPal, Ian Rose.
- Leader Diva is warning all members that the Bejeweled site is owned by Microsoft, and if they’re caught there, they’ll be kicked out of the Digital Divas….THIS MEANS YOU!!!!
- For those of you that use "index.html", "index.php", or "default.asp" in your URL’s…CAN YOU PLEASE KNOCK IT OFF?!!?!!???
You look like an IDIOT!
It’s like giving your address out as: 123 Main Street, FRONT DOOR….
…like, DUuuuuuuuuuuuUH!!!!!
You don’t see this address as
http://www.ericbrooks.com/whuzzup/index.php
DO YOU??!!??
Use this: /., this: ../., or this: ../../. to bounce around your directories…
‘Cause you’re making me NUTS, and I don’t like you as it is!!!!

Peep Chuck’s Public Enemy and Bring in the Noise websites… they’re PHAT y’all!
* For all of "Selloutica’s" Former fans…
- Halcyon! - Took the Webby for best personal site! It’s like we ALL won a webby! YOU ROCK BRO! I’m now inspired to wipe out everything on my site and just post pics of my flabby, nekkid ass all over. Just the horror and causing people to lose their lunch will make me a shoe-in for next year’s Webbys.
- The Weblogs Strike Back - Not that I was expecting the weblog community to greet me with open arms. ironically, they agreed with most of it… and then accused me of "holding back" like I did with most of the "blogs" I trashed.
Well, it was never my intention to make enemies with this…. it was a SPOOF, a SATIRE! However the page has gone through some re-writes, and expect a sequel… you little marys asked for it, now…..

Your little advice to NASCAR fans was one of the funniest things I have read in a while. Might I suggest, to provide additional ORDER to the visitors, that they line up alphabetically by second-middle names. Ties can be broken by the number of unique rungs in their DNA.

All Hail the God of Mischief!
Wait a sec. I thought you were the Lord of Misrule?
So many monikers, so little knees left.
==e== tu est tres adorable! Would that I could plant a big sloppy kiss on your cheek.
I hope you are HAVING a wonderful weekend!
